During our last trip to San Francisco, we stayed at Hotel Zelos, a contemporary, upscale boutique hotel in the SOMA District of San Francisco. It’s very centrally located, with easy access to shops, businesses, restaurants, nightlife, the Powell Street BART station, and trolley cars on Market Street.
Underground parking is also available (for an additional fee) though thanks to San Francisco’s excellent transit and ride-share programs, it’s unlikely that you’ll need a car during your stay. I just had one because I roadtripped from Los Angeles 😉
My room was very comfortable and surprisingly large given its location, thanks to the fact that this is an historic property – formerly the Hotel Palomar, it’s part of the Pacific Building which was built in 1907. While I absolutely love the amount of converted heritage buildings that you can find in the San Francisco core, my room did not feel “old” at all, and it’s clear that a lot of care went into updating and maintaining the hotel.
Inside the hotel on one of its upper floors, you’ll also find Dirty Habit, a hip cocktail bar, restaurant & lounge with a sizeable outdoor patio. The food was great (with some South Asian fusion inspired dishes) but the cocktails really stole the show. Definitely get those rhubarb doughnuts – though I may be biased because I do love those doughnuts. This is not your standard hotel restaurant, and worth checking out even if you don’t stay at the hotel.
