Contiki Eastern Road: Day 11 & 12
Our last stop in Eastern Europe begins with a sombre visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, a Nazi concentration camp where more than 6 million people, mainly Jews, were murdered. Over the course of the past week, we had traced the journey of the Jewish people to the Holocaust, beginning in Germany and ending in Poland. We learned a lot about the history of World War II, visiting memorials and former Jewish Quarters, but I don’t know if anything could have prepared us for what we would see and feel at this site.
Eastern Road was a packed trip during which we experienced the full spectrum of emotions. I learned so much about world history (with special thanks to our excellent trip manager, Joe Patrick) and I still keep in touch with many of the friends that I made along the way. Eastern Europe is not as well trodden as some of the other parts of Europe, so I’d recommend getting on this trip asap!
