Last month I went to Japan and I decided to take a day trip to Nara for the very first time.
The JR station in Nara is about a 20 minute walk from Nara Park, which is where you’ll find hundreds of deer roaming freely. You’ll find different shops and restaurants on the way there and I wish I had more time to explore them but I was on a mission – and I knew I was getting close to the park when I was greeted by my first deer.
I had read that the deer can be a little aggressive if they know that you’re going to feed them but I actually found them to be quite friendly. Some of them even bow when you give them food!
You can buy deer crackers in the park and I didn’t know that they came in packages. I bought 2 so I had a lot of food for these deer.
My plan was to set up a 360 degree camera and capture the deer walking around it but as I learned, that was a lot harder once they found out that I had food. It was pretty hard to manage all the different things that I wanted to do in terms of capturing this experience, and by the end I just gave up.
In the end, I still had a great time and if you are going to visit Nara as a day trip, I’d definitely recommend getting there as early as possible.
